TOKYO, Dec. 22 — Japanese judoka Yoshiro Akiyama suffered a bad back injury during training and has had to withdraw from his fight against Royce Gracie (Pictures) on the upcoming New Year's Eve K-1 Dynamite show, it was announced on Thursday.
Akiyama's replacement against Gracie will be ZST star Hideo Tokoro (Pictures), who was scheduled to fight Olympic medalist wrestler Katsuhiko Nagata the same night. Nagata now faces ZST Grand Prix champion Remigijus Morkevicius (Pictures).
The weight limit for Gracie-Tokoro, according to K-1, will be 180 pounds. This leaves the Japanese star with the difficult task to put weight on his usual 155-pound frame to meet the limit. Also this match will be played under "special rules" with two 10-minute rounds. While asked about the weight limit by the Japanese press, Tokoro announced his intentions to fight Gracie at 178 pounds.
Confirmed Fights:
HERO'S Middleweight Tournament Final 5 min / 3R (10-point-must system)
Genki Sudo (Pictures) (Japan / Beverly Hills Jiu-Jitsu Club) vs. Norifumi Yamamoto (Pictures) (Japan / KILLER BEE)
MMA Rules Bout
Royce Gracie (Pictures) (Brazil / Team Royce Gracie (Pictures) Jiu-jitsu) vs. Hideo Tokoro (Pictures) (Japan / Reversal Gym)
Special Bout
Akebono (Japan / Team Yokozuna) vs. Bobby Ologun (Pictures) (Nigeria / Freelance)
K-1 Rules Bout 3 min / 3R, ext. 1R
Ernesto Hoost (Holland / Vos Gym) vs. Semmy Schilt (Pictures) (Holland / Seido Kaikan)
HERO'S Rules Bout (75 kg / 165.37 lbs & under)
5 min / 2R
Katsuhiko Nagata (Japan / New Japan Pro-Wrestling) vs. Remigijus Morkevicius (Pictures) (Lithuania / RINGS Lithuania)
K-1 Rules Bout 3 in / 3R, Ext. 1R
Musashi (Japan / Seido-kaikan) vs. Bob Sapp (Pictures) (U.S.A. / Team Beast)
HERO`s Rules Bout 5 min. / 3R
Jerome Lebanner (France / Lebanner Xtreme Team) vs. Alan Karaev (Pictures) (Russia / Marunouchi Pro Gym)
